1. Quality Comments Matter: Move beyond generic responses like “great share” or “congratulations.” Be the sprinkle of excitement in the conversation, say something interesting. Your chances of being memorable and attracting people to connect with you will significantly increase.

2. It’s Not Always About the Numbers: Having 500 connections actively engaged with your content is more valuable than having 1000 connections who ignore it. It’s not a popularity contest; it’s about having the right kind of tribe. Quality over quantity is key.

Here comes an opposing truth that is equally true…

3. Silent Admiration Exists: Some followers may not actively engage by commenting, liking, or sharing, but they silently appreciate your content and secretly do a happy dance every time they see your post. The only time they might tell you is if they happen to meet you in person.

4. Experiment with Content: Don’t underestimate the power of experimentation. My highest-performing post was a spontaneous repost about top employers in South Africa with Absa Group weighing in at number one. Who knew a random repost could outshine my meticulously crafted content?

5. Be Yourself: Authenticity resonates with people. Ensure that your LinkedIn page reflects your YOU, whether it’s your wit, logical thinking, warmth, creative flair, passion on a topic, etc.; let YOU shine like a disco ball.

6. LinkedIn Live Events Work: Hosting events is like throwing a party where your chosen topic is the star. You get to be the host with the most and create an inclusive atmosphere where everyone feels welcome, valued, and seen. Some of the guests to your party turn into paying customers, and you get to expand your network.

7. The LinkedIn Police Aren’t Coming: Don’t fear judgment. No one is lurking in the dark alleyways waiting to critique your content or tell you that you have no right to express your thoughts on your chosen topic. Get on with being active, review your analytics, seek feedback from peers, and work intentionally toward your goals.

Let’s connect on LinkedIn. It’d be awesome to support each other’s journey and grow together. Looking forward to sharing ideas, experiences, and creating some exciting opportunities along the way .
